Small Business Spotlight #1: Musedbynude
By Lety Cardenas
Welcome to a new blog series where we will be interviewing and highlighting some of our favorite sustainable, women or poc lead small businesses to share with you all! Our first small business is Musdebynude, run by 21 year-old Laymis from Miami.
Here are some of the Q&A's answered:
Q: Do you identify as a POC, Sustainable or women-run business?
A: I identify as a Women-run business.
Q: What gave you the idea and or/inspired you to start your business?
A: What inspired me to start my business was time. I believe that there is no such thing as “you have time”. Time waits for no one and it passes faster than we know. I wanted to make a change for my future so I started my own brand.
Q: How did you come up with the name for your business?
A: I added ‘nude’ into the name of my brand because of my love for nude tones. I've seen they go exceptionally well with any skin color and I wanted to make my brand diverse and welcoming. Not to mention, all colors go well with nude tones and I didn't want to make dressing up stressful or hard. I wanted to make it simple and easy with the outcome of looking beautiful, and feeling comfortable and the word “muse” comes from taking inspiration from every woman I’ve encountered.
Q: What impact would you like to have in the small business community?
A: The impact I would like to have made in the small business community is big. I opened up MusedByNude with a purpose. That purpose was to prove to women that comfort and sexiness can both exist. It doesn’t matter if this certain color washes your skin complexion out because there is a store that can finally make YOU the center of attention instead of your clothes and that store is mine.
Q: What advice would you give someone who is thinking of starting a small business?
A: START NOW! Whatever it is that you are thinking of starting but don’t want to because there may be “similar stores” or “similar ideas” please put those thoughts aside & start now. There will always be something that will separate you from the rest but you’ll never know what that ‘something’ is until you open up your small business. I promise you, there’s nothing better in life than to do what YOU want and run things how YOU want to run them. It’s a blessing & everyone should feel this way about something.
